Side event dedicated to Ukraine at 19th World Meteorological Congress
During the 19th World Meteorological Congress Finnish Meteorological Institute (FMI) and Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center (UHMC) organized a side event to strengthen support to Ukraine in rebuilding and modernization of its hydrometeorological network.
The event was attended by the deligation of Ukraine, which included Permanent Representative of Ukraine with WMO Mykola Kulbida, advisor on international affairs of Permanent Representative Oleg Skoropad, head of Hydrometeorological Department of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine Bohdan Masovets.
Oleg Skoropad made a presentation in which he described a significant destruction of the Hydrometeorological Service of Ukraine and the damage caused to hydrometeorological facilities as a result of the russian war of aggression that began on 24 February 2022.
Representatives of European Meteorological services (EUMETNET) and European Centre for Medium Range Weather Forecast (ECMWF) provided brief information about newly launched in-kind collaborations with and support to UHMC.
At the end of the meeting, the participants discussed ways to further support Ukraine and strengthen cooperation.
