Radiological activity

The Center for Forecasting the Consequences of Radiation Accidents is a structural subdivision of the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine and is an integral part of the Emergency Response System of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, headed by the head of the Center.

The unit was created in 2015, and the software and technical complex of the decision support system "JRODOS" was put into production operation on January 1, 2017.

The main tasks of the Center:

  • provision of information support to state administration bodies in the field of prevention and elimination of negative consequences that may arise in the event of an emergency of a natural and/or man-made nature, related to the spread of radioactive substances by air and/or waterways;
  • carrying out a constant exchange of information about the actual and expected radiation status on the territory of Ukraine with hydrometeorological organizations, NAEK "Energoatom", the State Emergency Service and the State Agency of Ukraine. Exchange of radiation monitoring data with international organizations;
  • performing the duties of the operational division of the national hydrometeorological service within the framework of agreements with the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on the modeling of the processes of the transfer of pollutants during nuclear and other environmental accidents.

In order to fulfill these tasks, the Center constantly collects, processes and analyzes hydrometeorological information and data on the level of pollution and the radiation state of the environment. For more in-depth analysis, in addition to real measurement data, the Center widely uses modern tools for modeling the spread of radioactive contamination in the natural environment.
